Feminism as a Social Faux Pas

I was just informed of a new rule for interacting with polite company. Don’t talk like a feminist and “for heaven’s sake HHL, don’t tell people you’re a feminist!” If, regretfully, your fully demonic nature is revealed, it is best not to belabour the argument you are having with MRA-wannabe. According to my friends, actually asking if someone is feminist has become a calculated insult. It constantly amazes me the amount of shit people have to go through for believing that women are human and deserve to be treated as such.

Once your feminism is revealed people do one of two things: gabble in shock or attack you. Attacks can often take the form of deluded rants about your supposed beliefs and why those beliefs are wrong.

So, let me clear some things up for certain elements of “polite company”

·         I have never invaded Poland, nor do I plan to do so in the immediate future.

·         Yes, I am anti-porn. This does not mean I’m anti-prostitute.

·         I don’t hate all men, nor do I want to castrate them all (after all, we need a much larger sperm bank before we can get to that stage ;)).

·         I don’t want to scrub away your makeup or rip off your high heels.

  1. Don’t you love it when you tell someone something about yourself, and they immediately start telling you all sorts of things about yourself you never even knew?!

    I know I do. 😛
