Dear John Ringo

I’m a science fiction and fantasy junkie, and once I saw the tagline “Orcs in Space” I started to avidly read your book East of the Sun, West of the Moon. In the past I’ve found some elements of your work objectionable, but since you co-wrote something with David Weber, I figured you couldn’t be all bad. After reading the start of East of the Sun, West of the Moon my attitude had changed somewhat.

Wearing certain clothing and asking someone to dance is not an invitation to rape. You see, the term “an invitation to rape” is an oxymoron. Rape is a violent crime that happens without the consent of the victim. It is never the victim’s fault that someone has committed a crime against her. Using your power as an author to victim-blame is utterly appalling and the reason why I won’t be reading any of your books in the future.

The next time you write a book, no doubt filled with gratuitous rape scenes and Republican propaganda, you might want to remember that women read science fiction too.

Sincerely,

HHL
