If I had to sum up this movie in a sentence I would say “Death at a Funeral is an almost comedy with some glaring deficiencies.” If I had to rename it I would call it “Planet of the Pale Males.”
There was not a single person of colour in the entire movie. Not one. What the fuck? It did contain some female characters, the male to female ratio was approximately 2:1. The female characters seemed to exist in the movie to prove that the main characters weren’t gay. The storyline centres around a white dude whose deceased father was *shock* *horror* secretly GAY. Omg teh gheyz!!! The fathers old boyfriend shows up and attempts to blackmail the son. Poor baby, he is only thirty and his partner wants them to move out of the house, his giant baby brother won’t help pay for the funeral, someone is running around naked and now another someone is trying to blackmail him. Not only this, but the man trying to blackmail him is his father’s boyfriend and inexplicably a midget. My heart bleeds.
Half of the jokes centre around teh ghey, a third on family issues and the remainder on drug use. Original.
Unfortunately, no actual deaths took place. Watching one of the insufferable characters die might have redeemed this piss-poor attempt at a movie.
It deserves about 1/10th of a star.
