Quick Hit: Walking to Babylon by Kate Orman

Spoiler Warning for love interest sub-plot.

A science fiction book that passes the Bechdel test .*happy dance* It takes place in an interesting world and has a decent storyline. Funnily enough, the (female) main character doesn’t end up living happily ever after with the love interest. The content is fairly light apart from one scene where the threat of rape is qute clear.

The book also has a hidden connection to Doctor Who and the awesomeness just overflowed. It is part of a larger series which I haven’t read and can’t vouch for. Three stars.

  1. Pardon me, but isn’t it Kate Orman? From memory she helped Paul Cornell come up with the story for the original Human Nature with the Seventh Doctor.

I love feminist SF! I must recommend Octavia Butler and James Tiptree, Jr.

  2. Dang typos. I really need to start proof-reading.
